A Day in The Life |Back to School 2019

Now, that school has started and we’ve gotten in the groove of things, I thought I would do a, “Day in the Life,” post.

4:00- 4:30am TODDLER WAKES. Ava wakes and gets me from our bedroom. Yes, she wakes up so early which has taken my morning “me” time away. We’ve tried everything to get her to sleep in and it just hasn’t worked.

So at 4:00am she wakes up and I fix her a bowl of cereal, then I lay on the couch. Some mornings I blog, watch a Hallmark movie or try to fall back to sleep.

5:00-5:30am MAKE-UP & HAIR.  I try and get somewhat ready during this time.

5:15-5:30am JOEY AND ZOEY WAKE. Everyone is awake and we get ready for school/work. Ava gets herself dressed and if not Joey helps her. I feed Zoey a pouch or fruit cup while getting lunch boxes packed and pour me a cup of coffee.

5:45-6:00am DRESS ZOEY/ MAKE BREAKFAST SHAKE. Some mornings Zoey will sleep until this time. Either way at this time I get her dressed and ready for daycare. Joey makes our breakfast shake for the day. Some mornings we have breakfast bowls prepped or we make grits and eggs, but for the most part it’s a shake these days.

6:00-6:15am AVA TEETH & HAIR. Ava brushes her teeth while I fix her hair.

6:15am KISSES AND HUGS. Joey heads out the door with both girls in tow. He drops the girls off at school and then heads to work.

6:15-7:00am CLEAN HOUSE / GET READY FOR WORK. I usually use this time to clean up the house, throw in a load of laundry on delay wash, clean the kitchen, wash dishes, water plants, and finish getting ready for work. It varies every day. Some days I head into work earlier.

I LOVE coming home to a clean home, especially a clean kitchen.

So in this current season of life I much rather go to work with my hair in a bun and a clean house at home, than have a freshly curled and primped hair with a messy kitchen to return to. Haha…I guess you can tell where my priorities are these days.

3:45-4:30pm ARRIVE HOME. We all arrive home somewhere between this time. The girls will usually have a quick snack and play while we cook dinner. If I get home first then I try to get dinner started so we can take Ava for a bike ride before dinner.

5:00pm EAT DINNER as a family. We eat dinner as a family just about every night at the kitchen table. Even if it’s leftovers or make-do we all sit together at the table.

5:00pm-6:00pm NIGHT TIME ROUTINE . After dinner the girls get a bath and have a little more time to play before Zoey goes to bed.

6:00pm-7:00pm TIME WITH AVA. We spend this hour with Ava. Tonight we read books and played games. Some nights we watch a movie, and some nights we all decompress from our day and do our own separate thing in the living room.

7:00-7:30pm BEDTIME FOR AVA. I put Ava to bed. This usually consist of a bedtime story, talking about the day, and bedtime prayers. This has become one of my favorite parts of the day now that she has a twin bed I can fit in.

7:30-9:00pm DECOMPRESS/ TIME WITH HUSBAND. My husband and I use this time to decompress. We share about our day, eat ice cream, discuss bills and budget, and the usual housekeeping discussions. Many nights we both sit in our recliners in the living room and enjoy the peace and quiet while checking email, reading the news, blogging, etc.

Some nights Joey has to come in Ava’s room around 8:00 or 9:00pm and wake me up and other nights we’re sleeping by 8:00pm. It just depends on the night.

9:00pm BEDTIME FOR ADULTS. We are very rarely up past 9:00pm and when I am, I sure feel it the next day.

This morning BOTH girls woke up at 4:00am. I told Ava that there will be no TV, no tablet, and no breakfast until 5:00am. We all laid on the couch, quietly, in the dark. We made it until about 4:44am and then the girls got antsy. We’re going to keep trying this routine and see how it goes.

There you have it. That’s what a day in our life looks like.

Do you have any tips for toddler early risers?
