Easter Weekend Rewind 2016

This Easter Sunday was absolutely wonderful. We are so truly blessed and thankful for the many blessings the Lord has given us. We started our day off with a wonderful Easter Service at church where we celebrated our Risen Lord.

They sang a song called, “Because He Lives” and the chorus is just so true. Because he lives I can face tomorrow, because he lives I have no fear. I wrote these words on our chalk board at home as a reminder. These words bring peace to my soul.

Ava is usually very good in church but this Sunday she just decided she wanted to talk a little bit. She has also started this humming thing that she does when she is fighting a nap so we had to take turns taking her outside during the service. However, she did get to browse through the church bulletin and catch up on all the latest happenings.

After church we headed home and started preparing for our Easter lunch and guests. This Easter we had my husbands parents and grandparents over for Easter lunch. My husband was such a HUGE help in the kitchen. He cooked the ham, helped me with the green beans and mac and cheese, AND made the deviled eggs. That’s right, the man who doesn’t even like deviled eggs made them AND ate one. He has now inherited that job for many holidays to come!

For my table decor I decided to switch it up from what I had originally planned here. I used this blue/teal tablecloth (my husband loves blue) with white linen napkins and instead of using the DIY napkin rings I had planned on using, I used a fabric marker and drew a cross in the corner of each napkin. I felt like these were more fitting for Easter and I will save my napkin rings for another occasion.

I know it doesn’t look like it but I promise I ironed my table cloth and napkins. You probably think the fact that I am justifying even ironing my table cloth is crazy, but I know my Nona would be proud. Don’t get me wrong it is not something that I look forward to doing, and I was dreading this table cloth because it was bigger, had a ton of wrinkles in it and we really need to invest in a good iron, but once I got started I began to think back on all the memories of my Nona and my Mom, and the things they do to prepare for their guests.  It actually ended up being a little more enjoyable than I had expected.

After the table was set and the food was started it was time for the EASTER BUNNY! We set out Ava’s empty Easter basket Saturday night so the Easter Bunny could come by and fill it. We didn’t have any carrots for the bunny (we pureed all of those for baby food) but we did leave the bunny some slices of homemade pound cake! We bought Ava some things to go in her Easter Basket but we couldn’t resist and gave them to her before Easter. However, she still loved all of her eggs in her basket and her bunny!

Afterwards, our guest arrived. We enjoyed spending time together with family and ate our delicious Easter lunch as we celebrated the resurrection of Jesus Christ. We are truly blessed to be able to spend this Easter as a family of three!
