Friendsgiving 2015

This past weekend Joey and I hosted our first Friendsgiving. It was such a wonderful and much needed time with friends we call family. When I found out that everyone could make it I immediately started planning.

The key to  table decor is layering. Lots and lots of layers. I knew that for the table I wanted something simple and inexpensive. I started first with the table runner. I decided to use some of the paper drop cloth we had in our garage as the table runner. This is great to use because you can write on it. One thing I love to do is to write our guests names on it for place settings. You could also leave a tin of crayons or markers on the table and have everyone write something they are thankful for. You can find this paper here.

For the place settings I used my same old gold chargers. I knew I wanted something different but I also didn’t want to go and buy all new chargers. So instead, I grabbed some ribbon from Michael’s (which only cost me about $3.00 after using a 50% of coupon) and taped a piece to the charger. This helped change things up a bit and added a nice touch to the table. I highly recommend using chargers. They make such a huge difference to a table setting and you can find some for less than $2.00. I bought these from Michael’s. They usually have them on sale during the holidays. Go grab you some. I promise you won’t regret it!

I also found these cute plaid napkins from the clearance section in Target. They went great with the ribbon. For the plates I decided to use our fine china. I know people get afraid about breaking them but if they break, then they break. They are meant to be used for special occasions.

The glasses are a green glass that came from Pottery Barn. These helped add a little more color to the table.

For the centerpieces I used some glass jars I had in my pantry. In order to add some more color to the table I filled some of the jars with water and added cranberries. Then I placed a votive candle on top.

In the rest of the jars I placed twigs and cotton stems.

For the party favor I made Cinnamon Sugar Roasted Pecans. You can find the recipehere. I put them in these gold bags. I found these and the wooden tags in the Target Dollar Spot last week.

My friend’s little girl was coming so I wanted to make her a kid friendly table. I used the same paper as I did for the head table so she could draw and color. For her plate I used this cute kids plate that my husband used when he was little. I also found this cute little stand and placed her own cupcake on it.

We knew that everyone would probably be having tons of Turkey and pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving so we took a different route for the menu.

The boys played Kan Jam outside, and us girls drank Apple Cider Sangria (you can find recipe here)and had some much needed girl time. Then we all played a few rounds of BINGO using things old BINGO cards I found at the Vintage Warehouse in Lakeland.

All in all the day was successful. It was so nice to get together with close friends who we consider to be family before the crazy holiday season. We are truly blessed! This is a tradition we look forward to carrying on for many years to come!
