New York City Weekend Getaway Summer 2018

So, my husband and I had a little weekend getaway last weekend to New York City!

We went last summer and decided to go back again this year.

Our flight was delayed on Friday which put us arriving in New York pretty late. We checked into the Sheraton at Time Square around 11:00pm. When we tried to get into our room we discovered it already had guests in it. Oops! We laughed so hard. We went back down to the lobby and told them what happened. We asked if we could get a room with a view. The receptionist feeling super embarrassed about his mistake, offered us 4 rooms to choose from. We picked the room on the 48th floor and the view was awesome!

Saturday morning, we woke up early and headed towards the 9/11 Memorial and Museum for our tour. Our tour was with a few other people before the museum opened to the public. It was amazing. I highly recommend it. There is so much in this museum. I mean every little thing from that day that you could imagine is in here. They did such an amazing job on the museum and were so intentional with everything. It’s definitely something to go see.

After the museum, we headed to the Chelsea Market which I loved! There are so many cute shops and a variety of delicious foods.

After, some more exploring in the city we headed back to our hotel for a little rest.

That evening Joey took me to Eataly NYC. This is by far my favorite place and a MUST SEE. Especially if you love Italian food. This is way better than Little Italy, and I’ve come to the conclusion, that down here in Florida we don’t know what a good tomato tastes like. I had the BEST fresh mozzarella and tomato of my life! I don’t think I will ever be able to eat a tomato from FL again. My husband has spoiled me.

After dinner we headed to Little Italy to grab our favorite mini cannoli and then went back to our hotel for the night.  We ended our night with pizza and cheesecake in bed.

Sunday morning, we checked out of our hotel. Grabbed a bagel and some coffee at a local bagel shop and headed towards the airport to fly home to our baby girls.

We had so much fun on our trip. Exploring the city with my husband (kid free), enjoying the cool air and eating delicious food was just what we needed. We didn’t make it to Central Park but we will next time and maybe see another broadway show like we did our first visit. One day I want to visit during Christmas time. I hear that’s pretty neat!

Things I Learned on Our Trip to New York City

  • THE SUBWAY: I do NOT have a good subway face! Everything I’m thinking is written all over my face and probably with my mouth open. Gotta work on that and I don’t know where to look. Sometimes I try to look at a poster hanging or something?
  • SHOES: Comfort over fashion is best. I learned my lesson the hard way on our first trip. We walked miles and miles this trip so having comfortable shoes was super helpful.
  • LUGGAGE: Joey and I both brought a backpack to fit everything we needed for the weekend so we wouldn’t have to check a bag or carry around a bunch of luggage through NYC. This was a HUGE help and I was able to fit just what I needed in my backpack (really a diaper bag).
  • EXPLORING NY: So I think I might have an idea of how the subway runs and works as far as directions and stops go but there is NO WAY I would be able to do it without my husband. He planned this whole trip, and new exactly where we needed to go and when we needed to leave. He was AMAZING!!!

Ok, now tell me your favorite things to do in NYC for our next trip.
